Guests 2008

We love to have family and friends on board who also enjoy life floating wherever we may be in the world, somewhere in Europe (not Australia!).

Here we include a few photos and notes to spark you into action, if you're not one of those mentioned already. Visit our 2009 album, and the latest in Belgium and France.

NICKI

Wednesday 3rd September: Our first guest on board.

Nicki came to lunch taking time out from her visit from Australia. It took her less than an hour to drive from her mum and dad’s home at Rishton in the neighbouring county of Lancashire. Many words were exchanged between the Lancastrian and Yorkshiremen who were on board Endellion working away while we chatted over soup and bread rolls from Granthams, my very favourite bakery up the road. Nicki & Stewart

JONNEY AND FELICITY

Sunday 15th to Wednesday 17th September: Lesley's brother and sister-in law.

Felicity and Jonney brought heaps of wine, beer and best of all… Ratty’s brilliant Thai food from the Cornish Arms kitchen, their pub. We relished the prawns with chili dip that we saved and had again later in the week and it was by then seriously hot! And chicken in delicious lemon grass and chili sauce. Jonney & Felicity

BRIAN, KEN AND JILL

Wednesday 24th September: Friends from Sydney.

Brian, Jill and friend Ken (from their Manchester party) on board for a light lunch of bread rolls from the local excellent bakery. It was great to see them .. they're not quite the first guests and not quite the first from Australia (our friend Nicki beat them to that), but they set the record for first to take time out of their big holiday to visit us. Brian, Gill, Ken with Stewart

POLLYANNA

Sunday 28th September: Stewart's God-daughter.

A BBQ day - Pollyanna drove from her current home in Manchester, after spending the first part of her rest day at the office. We're still at the building yard and the weather is brilliant.
JONNEY AND SAM

Sunday 12th to 15th October: Lesley's brother and nephew.

Jonney and Sam joined Lesley and Stewart for a big adventure, taking Endellion from Leeds city to Rodley along the Leeds and Liverpool canal. Lots of challenges along the way - you can read about them here. Jonney & Sam

TANYA, POLLYANNA AND STEWART

Sunday 2nd November: Friend and fellow Bargee Tanya, Stewart's God-daughter Pollyanna

A fine day for an Aussie-style BBQ cooked on the stern deck, but eaten in the warmth of the wheelhouse. Pollyanna had driven over from Manchester and Tanya, in her little red Land Rover, from Woodlesford. Tanya, Pollyana and Stewart

JEAN

Sunday 3rd November: Stewart's mum Jean, in from Australia for three weeks

A high priority for Jean was to purchase a warmer jacket. What better place to go than the exquisite shopping arcades and Kirkgate markets in Leeds? Jean and Stewart at Arcade

STEWART, IAN, LINDA AND JEAN

Thursday 6th November: Stewart, Ian and Linda from narrow boat 'Lillian', and Jean

At Castleford Junction, just inside the flood gates, we meet up again with Ian and Linda moored adjacent on their narrow boat 'Lillian'. We benefit enormously from their advice and thoroughly enjoy a good yarn about life around the waterways. Stewart, Ian, Linda and Jean

KEN AND RHONDA ON BOARD 'SOMEHWERE'
Wednesday 3rd December: Neighbours at Shepperton Marina
We spent most of the day watching the services staff at Shepperton place Endellion back in the water after her trip from Newark in the north. Ken and Rhonda were on board their Dutch barge 'Somewhere' waiting for repair work to be completed. We thoroughly enjoyed chatting about all things Aussie, Kiwi and canals over a glass of wine. Dutch barge 'Somewhere'
JOAN, LESLEY AND STEWART
Tuesday 16th December: Lesley's mum Joan, up from Cornwall for two weeks
Lesley's mum Joan joined us at Chiswick Pier along with some beautiful sunshine. We walked along the River Thames Path to a special pub, The Dove. It was packed with lunchtime Christmas Party groups and the only room for us was in the Guinness Book of Records: the "smallest public bar". Needless to say we had it all to ourselves! Joan, Lesley & Stewart
STEWART, PHIL, CAROLYN AND HANNAH
Saturday 20th December: Friends from Australia, living in London: Carolyn, Hannah and Phil

Phil and Carol (old friends from the good old days of the ABC, more than 25 years ago), and daughter Hannah joined us for lunch at one of the 'famous' Gordon Ramsay restaurants, at Limehouse. The Narrow, on the edge of the River Thames, was a bit disappointing but the company and fun we had was exceptional!
Joan is just out of view.

DEAN, GERRY AND MONTY ON BOARD NB 'POLVEITHAN'
Monday 22nd December: Dean and Gerry (Lesley's brother and sister-in-law) and their dog Monty arrived at Limehouse via the Regent Canal

A year or so ago we had a shared vision for our two boats (narrow boat Polveithan and our Endellion) to come together for Christmas. We're now both moored up at Limehouse Basin, a perfect marina to spend Christmas and New Year. It's thrilling to see long(ish) term plans come to fruition!

CHRISTMAS DAY GATHERING
Thursday 25th December: Ben, Gerry, Nikki, Joan, Dean and Stewart

Most years we are in Australia so this year is quite different sharing it with the Hawkey family (left to right): nephew Ben, sister-in-law Gerry, friend Nic, mum (and mother-in-law) Joan and brother (and brother-in-law) Dean. Happily for us, Dean and Gerry did all the hard work cooking the huge Christmas dinner! We just shared our table!

BOXING DAY GATHERING
Friday 26th December: The family group grows!

Boxing Day is extra special as we are joined by Scott and (niece) Tayona and their three children Eleanor (Ellie) Alexander (Alex) and Bruce. Now twelve of us in total.. As Ellie said "It's like Christmas all over again" .. as they unwrapped more presents!

Left to right: Stewart, Lesley, Scott, Ellie, Dean, Bruce, Tayona, Joan, Gerry, front row Nic, Alex and Ben.
